Career start in times of COVID-19: Lohmann hires new trainees

Opportunity instead of crisis. Under this motto the Lohmann company in Neuwied filled its apprenticeship training positions in August.

2020_Lohmann_Azubis.JPGSeven junior employees started their professional life at the headquarters in Neuwied and the Die-Cutting Center in Remscheid. Three more trainees are being trained at Lohmann for Lohmann Therapie Systeme (LTS) in Andernach, with which a training cooperation for chemical laboratory assistants and chemical technicians exists. As one of the largest training companies in the region, the company currently trains a total of 23 apprentices. Of these, 15 are "own" and eight from LTS. The specialist in the field of bonding solutions offers the skilled workers of tomorrow a varied training program in which they are prepared for the challenges of the rapidly changing world of work.

In many industries and regions there has been a shortage of skilled workers throughout Germany for years. The Corona crisis is making the situation even more difficult: closed schools and cancelled trade fairs are significantly hampering contact between those seeking training and companies offering training. In spite of this difficult situation, Lohmann welcomed seven new apprentices to the start of their training again this year. The "Bonding Engineers" are focusing on entrepreneurial foresight: "With a Lohmann apprenticeship, one looks beyond the horizon. This means that young people are accompanied step by step through their training and are always attentively supervised. If they increasingly perform very well during their training, all paths are open to the trainees. For example, after successful completion of their training, they can go on to study," says Sabine Dunkel, head of training. Such careers often exist in Lohmann's personnel history.

In total, Lohmann trains in seven different industrial and commercial professions. The ten junior employees start their careers as chemical technician, machine and plant operator or industrial clerk Mittelrheinmodell, among others. This last mentioned training occupation is a special feature. This is because it takes place within the framework of the so-called "Mittelrhein Model". With this model, a business studies course at the Academy of Administration and Economics (VWA) is combined with in-company training in a commercial profession in the Middle Rhine region.

The young people go through their training in many different ways. In addition to the classic training content, this also includes, for example, corporate business games or the so-called "Transjob" project. In the latter case, the trainees work together with students from selected school cooperations in order to familiarize them with certain economic relationships. Lohmann maintains active contacts with schools and universities, is represented at career information days and is in close contact with other training companies in the region. In this way, the company emphasizes that early recruitment of young people is an important investment.

Today the Lohmann Group is represented at 29 international locations with more than 1,800 employees. Lohmann bonding solutions can be found in almost all branches of industry - from automotive engineering to consumer goods, construction, printing and electronics, mobile communication and medical technology.

Thus, young people find themselves in a diversified environment that offers them many opportunities for development. As part of the "all-round training" program, employees are also given appropriate training and further training internationally.
